Karakter sits right on the beach at Coral Estate, and the setting is a big part of why people keep coming back. Grab a table under one of the red umbrellas, find some shade beneath the large palapa, and settle in with the Caribbean Sea just a few steps away. The menu changes throughout the day, with Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner ranging from easy Comfort Food to more substantial dishes. There's also a full bar serving Cocktails, Beer, and Wine, so it's just as good for an afternoon drink as it is for dinner by the water. Weekends can get pretty busy around lunchtime, and sunset is understandably popular too. If you want a front-row seat for the view, it's worth getting there a little early. It’s not a swimming beach the currents are strong but it’s the best spot on the island to watch surfers carve waves or to photograph Curaçao’s untamed coastline. You’ll often find food trucks and locals hanging out by the shore, creating a laid-back yet adventurous vibe. Snorkeling & Diving Note: Not suitable for snorkeling or diving due to strong surf and rocky conditions. It’s most famous for cliff jumping the ledge offers a dramatic leap into turquoise water. Even if you don’t jump, the outlook alone is worth the stop. Snorkeling & Diving Note: Not a major snorkel/dive site, but the clear water below the cliffs is good for a quick swim. Nearby reefs are better accessed from Lagun or Kalki. This hidden little beach is one of those places that feels completely removed from the rest of the island. Tucked well off the beaten path and reached by a tricky climb down the cliffs, there are no signs pointing the way and finding it is part of the adventure. Once you're there, the setting is beautifully raw and cinematic, especially early in the morning or toward the end of the day. Because it's often completely secluded, it's also a favorite for photographers looking for the kind of shots that are a little harder to capture on Curaçao's busier beaches. A word of caution: the water here deserves respect. Waves can be rough and unpredictable, the current can be strong, and rocks surround much of the cove. On many days, we wouldn't recommend swimming at all. Come for the scenery, the solitude, and the photos rather than planning a traditional beach day. Colorful boats, nets drying on the pier, and turtles gliding through clear water create a cinematic, very Curaçao scene. It’s less about lounging and more about getting in the water and sharing space with everyday island life. Snorkeling & Diving Note: Best known for swimming with turtles around the fishermen’s pier. Turtles are easiest to spot in the morning (roughly 8:30–11:00 AM). Not a true dive site, but great for underwater photography. Playa Santu Pretu, also known as Black Sand Beach, is unlike most beaches you'll find around Curaçao. Instead of the usual white sand and turquoise-water combination, this little cove is known for its distinctive dark sand and rugged surroundings. This isn't really the beach to bring your chair and plan a full day of sunbathing. It's more of a place to explore, take some interesting photos, and enjoy a landscape that feels completely different from the island's more familiar beaches. Getting there takes a little more effort, which also means it's often wonderfully quiet once you arrive. If you're exploring this side of the island and enjoy finding places that are a little off the beaten path, Santu Pretu is a good one to know about.
